Job application template you can fill in or print

Short answerA blank employment application to type into on screen or print and save as PDF.

  • Printable
  • Fill on screen
  • Sample included
  • Checked 2 Nov 2026

This job application template is a blank employment application form you can type into on screen or print, laid out with the same sections most employers use: personal details, position and availability, work eligibility, education, three past jobs, references, and a signature and date line.

Use it two ways. Job seekers fill it in once as a practice copy, so every date and phone number is ready when a real employer's form opens. Small business owners print it blank and hand it to walk in applicants. Either way, nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.

Quick answers

  • What it is

A generic, standard application for employment with seven sections.
  • Formats

Type on screen, print blank, or save as PDF from your browser's print dialog.
  • Past jobs

Room for three employers, each with dates, duties, supervisor and reason for leaving.
  • Privacy

Nothing is saved or uploaded. Close the tab and the entries are gone.
  • Best use

Practice before a real form, or as a paper application for a small shop.

Using the job application template on this page

The form sits right after the quick facts box. Each section is a set of labeled boxes. Click a box and type, or tab from one box to the next. Nothing is checked or required, so you can skip anything you do not have yet.

When you are done, open your browser's print command. You will see two choices: send it to a printer, or pick Destination, Save as PDF to keep a digital copy. The PDF keeps whatever you typed, so a blank print gives you a blank job application, and a filled print gives you a reference sheet.

Worked example. Daniel is applying for a warehouse associate job and expects a paper form at the front desk. The night before, he opens the template and fills in:

  • Position applied for: Warehouse Associate, second shift
  • Available start date: two weeks from the offer
  • Employer 1: his grocery stocking job, with month and year dates and his supervisor's phone
  • References: a former shift lead and a coach, with titles and emails

He saves it as a PDF, prints one copy, and takes it with him. At the front desk he copies the answers straight across in a few minutes, with no guessing at dates.

Close the tab and the entries disappear. Print or save the PDF before you leave the page.

Some employers add a separate page asking permission for a background check. That consent has to be its own document under federal rules, which is why this form does not include it. Our consent form guide explains what you are agreeing to.

A filled employment history block, as a sample

The history section is where most applications go wrong. Here is one employer entry written the way a recruiter likes to read it.

Employer: [Grocery store name], [City, State]

Dates: March to present (start month and year, end month and year)

Job title: Stock Associate

Duties: Unloaded two trucks a week, stocked dairy and frozen aisles, rotated dates, helped customers find items.

Supervisor: [Supervisor name], Store Manager, [Phone]

Reason for leaving: Seeking full time hours

May we contact?: Yes

Do: write duties as short action phrases with numbers where you have them.

Do: give a neutral reason for leaving, such as seasonal job ended.

Don't: write see attached in the duties box.

Don't: blame a former boss in the reason for leaving box.

For more wording, see reason for leaving examples.

Printable job application tips for paper copies

  • Print on plain white paper, one sided, so a manager can photocopy it.
  • Fill it in with black or blue ink and print in capital letters if your handwriting is hard to read.
  • If you make a mistake, draw one neat line through it rather than scribbling.
  • Write N/A in a box that does not apply, so nobody thinks you skipped it.
  • Bring your filled practice copy, so you can copy dates exactly.

If a store asks you to take the job application paper home, return it within a day or two. Quick returns signal that you really want the shifts.

Using one form for retail, restaurant, warehouse and caregiver jobs

A general job application works across most hourly jobs. What changes is which section the manager reads first.

JobSection managers read firstWhat to have ready
RetailAvailability, especially weekends and holidaysAn honest weekly schedule
RestaurantAvailability and any food handler cardCard number and expiry if you have one
WarehouseShift preference and ability to liftWhich shifts you can work every week
CaregiverCertifications and referencesCPR or aide certificates and two work references
Farm workerSeason dates and transportWhen you can start and how you will get to the site

Caregiver and child care roles often need a fingerprint check later; see healthcare and care job checks.

The signature line and what you are certifying

Nearly every employment application form ends with a statement along these lines. The wording below is a typical example, not legal text.

I certify that the information on this application is true and complete to the best of my knowledge. I understand that false or missing information may lead to rejection of my application or, if hired, dismissal.

Signature: ______________ Date: ______________

Signing means the employer can let you go later if it finds an untrue answer, even years after hire. Read it, then check your dates once more before you sign.

Why a blank template still helps with online forms

Most medium and large employers ask you to apply through an online portal rather than on paper. A filled template still saves you time: you copy each answer straight in, rather than hunting for an old supervisor's phone number while a session timer runs. Our guide to the online job application explains how those portals read your answers, and the filling out guide covers every field in depth.

Leave your Social Security number, bank account and ID numbers off any practice copy you print. A real employer will ask for those later in a secure step, and you do not want a paper with them lying around.

For small employers: handing out a printable application

If you run a small shop and want a simple job application form to hand to walk ins, print the template blank. Keep it to job related questions. Avoid asking for age beyond whether someone is 18 or older, and leave out questions about religion, family plans, health or national origin. Store completed forms securely and keep them only as long as your recordkeeping rules require.

Questions people ask

Is this job application template free to use and print?

Yes. You can fill it in, print it, and save copies as PDF as often as you like. There is no sign up and nothing is collected.

Can I get the job application as a PDF?

Yes. Open your browser's print command and choose save as PDF as the destination. Print it blank for a fresh employment application PDF, or filled for your own reference sheet.

Can I edit it in a word processor?

The form is built to be typed into right in your browser. If you prefer a word processor, save the PDF and copy the section headings into a new file.

What is a standard application for employment?

It is a general employer form that collects your name and contact information, the role you want, when you can work, proof you may work, schooling, past jobs, references, and a signed statement. Generic versions keep that order.

Will employers accept a generic job application?

Small businesses often do. Larger employers usually want their own form or portal, so use this template as practice and copy your answers across.

Does the form save what I type?

No. Entries stay only on the open page. Print or save the PDF before you close the tab.
